Summer is right around the corner! Alright, not really, but there is no harm in dreaming and pretending. If only we could bring out our wicker patio set and soak up some sun. The time will come soon enough, and when it does you need to be prepared to save energy. There is no point in wasting away dollars just because you are too hot to turn off the AC or to lazy to cook outdoors. Here are four easy ways to conserve power in the hot summer months.
Tip #1 – Check All your Windows and Doors.
To make sure your house is as energy efficient as possible it is highly recommended to check your windows and doors. Look for places where cool air is able to escape through drafty windows and the like and make appropriate repairs to fix it.
Tip #2 – Turn off the AC and Open up your windows.
You should definitely try some alternatives to air conditioning, you never know, you might like it more. The AC really uses a lot of power and results in large numbers on your energy bill. Try something such as a swamp cooler to cool a smaller surface room. Swamp coolers cool air with water or ice and they use far less power. A window fan to bring cool air in at night is also a great alternative. Ceiling fans work very well too when it comes to improving air circulation in a stuffy room. Lastly, open up your windows, the air will feel much more fresh and energy will be at its all time low.
Tip #3 – Consider Cooking and Eating Outdoors.
As you’ve probably realized, cooking indoors can generate a lot of heat, especially if you are in a smaller efficiency. Consider taking your meal outside to fire it up the grill. Charcoal grilling will not add dollar signs to your power bill, and it is a great way to enjoy the summer climate to the fullest.
Tip #4 – Turn your lights off.
You really need to take advantage of the long, beautiful summer days and open up your curtains, pull back the blinds, and experience the joys of natural light. You hardly need lights in the summer because the days last until evening. Another great way to save energy is by getting an hid conversion kit and placing led lights in and around your house. These lights last ten times longer and use far less energy. As always, be sure to constantly research newer technologies and take all the necessary steps to live “greener.” There are plenty of ways to save energy in the winter and in the summer, keep this tips in mind and save our environment one day at a time.
