The Sims 3 ambitions expansion pack has only been out for 3 weeks and so far it seems to be a fantastic addition to the Sims 3 base game. In this expansion you get to choose from several specific ambitions career paths and you get to actively work on the career. No more waiting around at home watching over an empty house while your sim runs off to their job at the police station. Now you get to be with them and help them advance all day long.

The firefighter career path is exciting to work on. It’s not as interactive as the other Ambitions jobs because your sim is sort of on auto pilot to arrive on the scene and deal with the matter. If you have the “Free Will” setting off, then perhaps it is more interactive because you will then have to tell your sim what to do once arriving on the scene. Otherwise, with the free will off, your sim will know exactly what to do without your help and he/she will automatically respond by extinguishing a fire, collecting gnomes from a gnome invasion or fix an air conditioning unit that has gone haywire. Of course there are many more scenarios to participate in and many that I myself have yet to encounter.

Some days will be rather quiet as you sit around at the firehouse. During the downtime you should work on your athletic skill and handiness skill.

Your athletic skill will help you put out fires faster which is important because you are graded on how quickly you can put out a fire completely. Do it fast and you will earn more experience to advance faster but too slow can cause you to lose experience.

Your handiness skill is important so that you can maintain the fire truck’s engine and you can also upgrade your extinguisher. A well maintained fire truck allows you to arrive to an emergency faster which is buying you time to respond in a timely manner. Having an upgraded extinguisher helps you put out the fire faster too.

As you respond to emergencies you earn experience and can be promoted rather quickly. Along with promotions come new uniforms, working hours and more money.
