Solar Power Efficiency- Why A Need For It?

Author: Matt Stiller
Source: articlesbase.com

You may be surprised by how far the cost of solar electricity for the home has come down in the last few years. Even better, tax rebates and other incentives are available from the government if you convert your home either partially or completely to solar or wind energy. If you think that installing your own solar panels is beyond your finances, then an alternative is to obtain your electricity from a green energy supplier — check out what is available in your area. Such suppliers will provide only green, renewable energy supplies — such as solar power, hydro-electricity, and wind power. The important point is to ensure you have carefully thought out precisely how much electricity your home needs before you start looking at the different ways of obtaining your own green power — you may be surprised at how easy it is to build your own solar panels, for example.
Discover How To Create Your Own Solar Energy Panels >>
The 1st question is: Just how much electric power will you’ll need from your green power supply source? The diverse models of solar panels will deliver diverse amounts of power, and you ought to get it right. Try to ascertain how much electrical power you use each and every day — look at the bill from the present electrical power supplier to locate this. You must look via a whole year’s worth of bills if feasible to ensure that it is possible to establish how much your monthly consumption varies from month to month — when it gets dark earlier you might will need a lot more light, in the winter you may require far more heating, when it is hot you’ll need much more operate from the air conditioning, and so on.
In the event you decide to go with solar power you need to understand that several designs and several arrangements of the photovoltaic cells utilized in solar panes operate at diverse efficiency ratings, and also may well have differing warranties attached. A solar panel offering fifteen percent effectiveness using a one-year warranty will not be as valuable to you as another providing thirteen percent effectiveness but which comes having a lifetime warranty. It’s a good idea to talk with friends and neighbors, or even strangers more than the internet, to discover out their experiences with solar panels, and how the differing solar power performance ratings affected their buying decisions — and whether they turned out to be excellent decisions. Talk also to differing installation engineers and suppliers — they will be able to offer alternate insights, but beware of their motivations!
The diverse styles for solar panels for your home also have differing efficiencies, and there are in general three diverse kinds of models for solar panel systems. First comes the grid-ties program, exactly where your own solar panels are tied into your existing electrical energy meter; in this arrangement you may primarily be utilizing electricity out of your solar panels, but when there’s little sun or you will need to use much more electrical power that your solar panels can supply, then your electric corporation can provide you with backup. Second can be a grid-tie with battery backup: in this arrangement any excess electrical power is stored in your batteries, and any excess more than which is then fed back to the power organization — that you are providing them with electric power! Finally, there is the stand-alone program in which again you have a battery but now you aren’t connected for the power grid.
When you have done your research, you understand the differing efficiency ratings for the differing solar panel designs, and you are aware of the different arrangements for connecting to the power gird (or not), then you are ready to begin shopping. Conversion to home solar power should be thought of as an investment: it will cost to start with, but very quickly it will pay for itself, and then you can begin to benefit from the lower bills from the electricity company — plus you will be taking steps towards saving the planet!
Over the months of research, I have found one “effective” product that can show you How To Create Your Own Solar Energy Panels by using a step-by-step Instructions that’s guaranteed to save hundreds on your energy bills

Solar Fountains Make Sense

Author: Jennifer R Scott
Source: ezinearticles.com

If you are looking for a distinctive feature to add to your yard, there are a few choices that fit the bill. You could build a luxurious deck, a place to gather family and friends in the summer, enjoy the evening breeze and watch the sunset. You could build a pool, creating a place to escape the worst of the summer heat. But neither of those options adds greenery or life to your yard. A deck is a stoic, unchanging place, and a pool in the end is little more than a hole in the ground filled with water.

If your goal in adding to your yard is to enhance the feeling of being outside, you have a different set of options. You could add one or more trees, but trees take years to reach their full impact, and the older the tree you buy is, the more complex planting it becomes. You could go with a planted bed of shrubs, flowers, and other decorative plants, but they are heavy on maintenance. You could set up a water feature such as a fountain or pond, but they require extensive wiring to ensure good water circulation and filtration.

There is an option however to cut out the downsides of installing a fountain or pond: install a solar powered fountain. The power required to run a filter and pump is relatively small, and the fountain itself can have the paneling built into the rockwork, allowing you to add the vitality of running water to your yard without having to run wiring from the house or adding to your monthly electric bill.

The small panels in solar fountains collect sunlight and utilize it to run the pump that makes your fountain or waterfall flow. It can even collect more power than it takes to run the pump, and store that in a batter so that it can run during the evening, when the sun doesn’t provide enough light to power the system directly. The system is completely self-contained, so you don’t have to dig a trench across your yard to bury wires, and you don’t have to worry about rainy weather shorting out your system. You also don’t need to have a comprehensive working knowledge of household circuitry, since a solar fountain runs on the much simpler DC that solar panels create.

In a nutshell, solar fountains give you the benefit of a fully functional water feature with much less long term cost and maintenance. They allow you to add more of an outdoors ambiance to your yard without turning it into an animal sanctuary. They are civilized, yet retain their wild side. They are perfect for the yard that aims to be a yard, and not just an extra room in your house that happens to lack a roof or air conditioning.

Jennifer R. Scott has been writing for over ten years on a broad range of topics. She has a background that includes such diverse areas as environmentalism, cooking, animal care, and technology. Getting That Bit of Extra UV Protection at Home Through Solar Screens

Author: Jeffrey Rayton
Source: ezinearticles.com

Solar screens are a great way to keep the heat out. Unlike conventional shades solar screens allow the light to filter through but keep the harmful UVA rays at bay.

A lot of folks do not realize that the sun can fade furnishings in the home as well as wallpaper, flooring, paint virtually any item that is in a room that is exposed to the suns rays through a window everyday. The fading that occurs from the harmful rays of the sun can leave your items looking much older and much more worn then they are.

Using conventional shades and drapes as window treatments will help some but will not filter out the harmful UVA rays completely. It will slow the process but not prevent your stuff from being ruined by the suns rays.

Energy Savings

The heat of the sun beating into a room can drive up your cooling costs like nothing else. Most window treatments will filter out some of the heat; in most cases other window treatments are not very effective at this process.

Solar screens are clearly one of the best things you can do to lower your summer time energy costs. They work by reflecting the sun back outside, the heat never gets into the home. This reduces the amount of time your air conditioning system has to work to cool the home, less energy is used which translates into less costs.

Of course in the long run it is not only good for your pocket book but it is good for the environment as well.

Choices

Most folks think of screens of any sort as being only black grid like contraptions, but solar screens thanks to new technology come in an array of different colors. There is the standard black choice but you can also purchase these great screens in white, sand and gray. This opens up the possibilities. Finding the right screen to fit the color palette of your home is quite simple.

There are also a couple of different patterns to choose from. Some are virtually invisible on your windows.

The Cost

The cost of having solar screens installed will be recouped in approximately three seasons, after which there is nothing but pure savings on your energy bill!

These screens are a great investment for your home; they will increase the value of your home, save you money and keep your home interior looking new.

Sometimes it’s the things that seem insignificant that make the biggest difference. Solar screens can be a huge help to overall energy savings and protection from unwanted sunlight. Learn about these and other types of blackout shades from my website.

Conservatory Too Hot? Let Window Film Solve the Problem

Author: Paul Andrew Foster
Source: ezinearticles.com

When the summer heat rises the heat in your conservatory goes through the roof. You’ve spent a lot of money on your dream conservatory and as soon as the sun comes out its too hot to use. Not only that but the heat from the conservatory can even radiate throughout the rest of the house. Air conditioning units are very expensive and conservatories can be so hot that they often don’t work effectively. Blinds are very expensive and often the fabric heats up and then radiates that heat back into the conservatory, they also collect dust and dead insects, becoming a pain to keep clean. Furthermore they block the sky which is one of the benefits of buying a conservatory in the first place. Solar inserts are another option but these are not suitable for glass and, whilst they’re not as dear as blinds they can be a little costly.

The most effective solution to you solar heat problem is a solar control window film. One of the market leaders is Coolkote, Coolkote is one of the only films that’s suitable for polycarbonate as well as glass. Coolkote will stop nearly 80% of the solar heat and the same amount of glare, making viewing of your TV screen or reading a book much easier. Coolkote, also stops 99% of the harmful UV rays meaning that it will protect your furnishings from fading damage caused by the suns rays. Coolkote has a light Grey diffused appearance. When installed to a polycarbonate roof it looks very similar to the actual polycarbonate, however if installing on a glass roof you can use a standard solar window film such as a reflective film. These will allow better vision out of the roof as well as stopping slightly more heat and glare than Coolkote too. A reflective window film is even slightly cheaper than Coolkote as Coolkote is s special film for polycarbonate. Reflective window tints are available in a large range of colours such as silver, Grey, bronze and even gold, green and blues so cater to every taste.

Window films are self adhesive and require no special tools, all you will need is a spray bottle similar to what you may have for the garden, some Johnsons baby shampoo or washing up liquid to mix with some water to use as a slip solution, a sharp knife, glass scraper and a hard rubber squeegee. You’ll also need to people to install the film or alternatively use a professional installation company.

The author of this article, Paul Foster, has been in the window film industry for over 12 years, Vision Window Films provide UK window film installation of Coolkote and other Conservatory Window Film.

Energy Saving Windows the Way Forward

Author: Dennis Moore Hopkins
Source: ezinearticles.com

It all started with energy saving bulbs which could outlast many times the conventional ones. Although they cost more, they justify their existence by using less energy yet produce the same results. This, in turn, was a friendly move towards preserving Mother Nature from increasing landfills and growing rubbish dumps.

Since majority of windows are made of glass, they are undoubtedly the main channel for energy loss in a house or building. Although one may assume regions with seasonal climates are more prone to energy loss, don’t be lulled into that belief. As more turn on heaters to keep warm in cold weathers, others rely on air-conditioning to lower indoor temperatures. The continual increase in using more and more energy can be curbed by a simple step to turn to energy saving windows. Their purpose is to keep the heat and cold apart at appropriate times of the seasons.

Costs to install these windows tend to be high at the initial stage due to various contributing factors. Window frames range from a selection of wood, vinyl, aluminum and fiber glass, each offering its own set of pros and cons with differing costs. They can also be combined to provide better insulation. Materials used to make the window glasses can be glazed for thermal efficiency as well as security. Reflective layers can be added to manage the amount of light and heat passing through. Double or triple hung windows are basically multiple layers of glass affixed together. The minute space in between these layers is either vacuum, the perfect insulator, or filled with special gases. All these translate into creating the perfect, or near perfect, energy saving products.

Some window manufacturers have their products bear energy saving labels. These labels profess that these products have been tested and approved to be friendly to the environment in that they promote efficiency usage of energy. Some nations’ governments provide tax incentives to home owners for installing such energy saving products in their homes. Hence, that’s a good pointer to take note when shopping for energy saving windows.

The Importance of a Home Warranty

Author: Nick Jakubowski
Source: ezinearticles.com

Like any other company, every home warranty provider operates a bit differently; most will cover the basics though. The basics, in most cases, covers the routine heating, plumbing and electrical systems. Some companies may offer additional coverage for air conditioning, most appliances, pools and spas and more. A home warranty plan can also be purchased at the time the home becomes listed to protect the owner during the selling period and can then be transferred to the buyer. This warranty can also be rolled into to the escrow portion of the transaction.

Not quite sure how the whole process works? Don’t worry; it’s quite simple. Once you purchase a plan, all you need to do is pick up the phone and call (some warranties even allow you to submit requests online). The warranty provider will contact the appropriate service technician, who will then contact the homeowner to set up a time and location to come out. As long as the repair is covered under the warranty, the homeowner will only pay their deductible, which is far cheaper than replacement cost.

Before you decide to purchase a home warranty plan, it’s best to assess your property. If you come across some potential problems, it may be a good idea to invest in a warranty. Look closely at the appliances. If they look appear to be quite old, they are at higher risk of malfunction. In most cases, you can speak with the previous owner and find out how old the appliances are and make rational decisions using the information you receive.

Since every company is different, every warranty is going to be different as well. That’s why it’s important to read your contract thoroughly. Make sure you are only getting the coverage you want and not paying for protection you don’t need. The last thing you want is to have something break and learn the item isn’t covered. Take the time to research the companies that offer home warranties to learn which one is the best choice for your home.

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

One Feb 17, 2009 President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to jumpstart the economy and implement new energy tax credits. Thousands of people have taken advantage of the act to upgrade to energy efficient products and earn tax credits. Among the most important parts of the energy efficiency plan are the 30% materials rebate. The plan increased the rebate from $500 to $1500.

There are a few limitations to the types of energy efficient products you can apply this credit to. Installation is not covered in many materials costs rebates.

Installation costs are covered for:

Solar Panels

HVAC (Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning)

Water Heaters (solar included)

Geothermal Heat Pumps

Fuel Cells

Wind Turbine Systems

Installation costs not covered for:

Windows

Doors

Roofs

Insulation

There are however, many energy efficiency measures including the majority of weatherization projects that are covered in different state programs.

The best way to further educate yourself is through the Energy Star website. Simply plug in your zipcode and it should be able to point you to what types of renewable energy tax incentives and rebates are available to you.

Another good place to look is at your utility. There is plenty of information made local to your area. If you live in a state that is spearheading the renewable energy movement like California, Texas, Connecticut, or New Jersey there may be even more incentives that will help you heavily subsidize your initial costs. The time to move to renewable sources of energy is now. Prices are incredibly affordable and the planet is in dire need of clean energy.

Reasons to Replace Your Windows – A More Energy-Efficient Home

Author: Alexander Fishback
Source: ezinearticles.com

While everyone knows that having the right windows and doors keep robbers from breaking in as easily, there are other threats to homes that better windows can assist with, too. Whether you need to keep critters out during the winter months or need a lower energy bill year-round, investing in better windows can lead the way to a more comfortable and affordable home. And whether you decide to take the project on yourself or need to hire a bit of extra help, the entire process of getting your windows redone often doesn’t take very long, compared to what kind of time frame you’re dealing with when you renovate an entire room of the house.

The trouble with windows is that sometimes, any other home renovation ends up being higher on a homeowner’s list of priorities. Windows, unless broken, aren’t often thought of as something that needs fixing. But the fact is, having the right windows does wonders for your living space.

There is definitely a whole lot of charm that comes with owning an older house, no matter where in the country you happen to be. But one of the trouble with older New England saltbox homes and even ranches in the midwest is the fact that drafts come in, and they come in hard. If you have better windows, you end up spending less money on your heating and air conditioning bills, because you are better protected from the elements. And leaks from rainstorms can really do a number on interiors, so the very same windows that have trouble with wind often have the same problems with rain, too.

When you’re embarking upon your windows home renovation project, it is important to figure out what your actual budget entails. Most people who aren’t used to doing any sort of fix-it-up activities should invest in having a professional come out for the installation, and this can often be done in a matter of days. You might want to ask around among friends to get a fair price, or you can go to a local hardware store and see if their department has anyone who can get the job done, too. With something like windows, which if dropped break and then immediately need to be replaced, be certain you’re up to the home renovation challenge.

For those who aren’t quite convinced that their energy bills are going to be lower after taking on this somewhat-expensive home renovation project, consider the other things that better windows manage to accomplish for your home. If your neighborhood has slowly felt louder and louder, it might be the fact that you’re still the only house on the block using single-paned windows. When you go with more energy-efficient windows, you also have the option of getting double-paned windows. And in addition to keeping rain and cold out better, they also do a great job with noise.

Likewise, families with new babies might want to consider the fact that older windows often come with the wrong kind of paint. You don’t want to place a crib next to a windowsill that’s covered in lead paint, and you don’t want your windows to harbor secret mold problems, which will lead to a whole other level of home renovation if not corrected immediately. Making up your mind to invest in better windows is the sort of thing that benefits your peace of mind, your comfort, your pocketbook, and your future. There’s no reason to not get it done sooner rather than later.

No matter what, your local hardware store can often help with DIY and contracting projects alike. Whether it’s kitchen remodeling Sears assistance or opting for replacement windows sears, it’s always a good fit.
